Editor-in-chief says: Sorcerer's Kingdom is a tactical role-playing game released for the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis. The game was also published in the PAL area few months after the original release. The game offers the players a chance to control different characters and guide them through fights, dungeons and challenging battles. The battles are based on the turn system, with players taking turns after each other. Movement on the map while battling is also possible. The game allows the player to increase their stats by fighting and thus become better than the opponents.

The game continues the story of the Algol Star System, which is also featured in the previous releases. Many gameplay elements from the previous installments are kept in Phantasy Star IV. There are turn-system battles, magic spells and overhead explorations: all of the are available in this release. The game is acknowledged as one of the best RPGs ever to be released and is the last one featuring the Algol Star System.

The game was acknowledged as a fast-paced release with colorful and good graphics. The story focuses on Sir David, a knight who travels to the town of Green Row. Many weird things happened in the town and Sir David is summoned by the King to try and find the cause. There are a total of five characters in the game, but only Sir David can be controlled by the players.

The story centers on three brothers from the village called Holm, who go on a mission to get back a talisman stolen by evil forces. Their main task is to bring the talisman safe back to the home village. The story is just like a fairytale, with the player taking control of the eldest brother. If he is unsuccessful, he will take control of the second one. If he is unsuccessful again, he will control the younger brother. Each characters has its own set of skills, but also weaknesses.
