Army Men RTS is a Strategy game. Army Men RTS brings your fantasy fights between plastic army guys to life (well, kind of) in a solid real time strategy game.
You've been drafted, and it's all-out war in tactical military game.
Army Men RTS is not another plastic soldier game! This strategic war game eliminates the intimidation factor commonly found in other real-time strategy games. Army Men RTS forces players to strategically build and manage troops, vehicles, and buildings during a full-out war! Players collect resources and build bases before the Tan Army can retaliate. Army Men RTS features an intuitive interface and easy-to-learn controls. The fun is fast and furious in this in-depth, pick-up-and-play RTS experience.
This is not another plastic soldier game; Army Men: RTS forces players to think about how to strategically build and manage troops, vehicles and buildings while involved in a full out war! Players collect resources and build bases before the Tans can retaliate. The fun is fast and furious in this in-depth, pick-up-n-play RTS experience.
You progress in your missions through familiar domestic locales such as an attic, basement, bathroom, front yard, kitchen, and living room, encountering toys like a model train, and a bat and ball scattered along the way. Critical structures also fit the whimsical theme, with for example the resource depot being a large food blender with a suction attachment. The two vital resources you need for construction are electricity and plastic: you may collect electricity from batteries, flashlights, toasters, or watches; and you may obtain plastic from dolls and action figures as well as a dog's food bowl. As with the inside racing in Acclaim's Re-Volt, this kind of non-traditional context for combat poses fresh opportunities and challenges.
The story in Army Men RTS will ring awfully familiar. Colonel Blintz has gone wacko due to a nasty head trauma and has left the friendly Green Army to join up with the enemy Tan soldiers. You play the role of the hero Sarge and command the Green forces against the Tan foes. Along the way you encounter such colorful characters as Vikki, Sarge's flame; Thick, a huge soldier who makes up for with brawn for what he lacks in brains; Bullseye, a real sharp shooter; Scorch, who loves to burn the enemy with his flame thrower; and Shrap, who drops mortar shells on the Tan Army. Your mission is to find Blintz's headquarters and eliminate the threat. So while there is little complexity or unexpected plot twists here, the potential for a lighthearted enjoyable escape from reality is certainly present.
You begin each mission by building a headquarters, allowing you to construct one or two bulldozers and several dump trucks. Then you use a bulldozer to build a resource depot near any visible resources, followed by using the dump trucks to mine the resource and to build a barracks for your soldiers. Once your squad is ready, you send them out to explore the area around your base. For security you build a barbed wire fence around your camp and place a few guard towers between fence segments. After amassing sufficient resources, you may upgrade your barracks to a super barracks and generate more specialized soldiers, as well as improving your headquarters to a super headquarters; and building a garage, which you may use to build medic trucks, machine gun trucks, minelayers, and tanks. You may ultimately even upgrade the garage to a super garage and make choppers for aerial assaults on the Tan base. The useful power-ups you may gather along the way include weapons' firepower boosts, troop movement speed boosts, and unit health boosts.
Each of the Campaign mode missions contains one primary objective and two secondary objectives. The constraints on these secondary assignments frequently involve a fixed amount of time or resources available for achieving required goals, and the tradeoff between these constraints can make accomplishing both of them a real challenge. If you simply complete the primary objective, you receive a bronze medal; if you complete in addition one of the secondary objectives, you get a silver medal; and if you complete all of the objectives, you receive a gold medal. Earning sufficient awards serves not only to foster a sense of personal satisfaction but also to unlock new Great Battles scenarios for your amusement.
