El Airplane is a spoof on popular scrolling shooters. You are to pilot the most unusual airplane in the world. Actually, the flying chariot is a more appropriate word. Your goal is to get to the finish, destroying the enemies on the way. Your ammunition will consist not of bullets, however, but rather bananas and glass flasks. And you can drop an anvil on top of the head of some absent-minded enemy. Each of 6 episodes comes with tons of funny creatures that try not to let you get to the finish. Keep your eyes open and collect the most unusual weapons and bonuses while you are flying to help you get to the very finish.
As if lifted from the pages of James Thurber's story The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, El Airplane redefines the conventional side-scroller shooter. Oddball enemies, quirky power-ups, and sharp 3D graphics combine to create an addictive game that can hook players quickly. Each episode contains about five levels. The first episode is fairly easy and is not too hard to beat without crashing your faithful flying machine once. A reasonably small download file and a quick installation means you can start playing in no time.
The two weapons on your plane are a fairly weak gun and a small supply of anvils to drop on absent-minded opponents. Both can be upgraded with pickups throughout the levels, but not all power-ups are particularly helpful. Would shooting a glass lightbulb at a flying alligator inflict as much damage as it does? More than an anvil? Regardless, the true test of a game's value is how it engages the player, and El Airplane's imaginative world of flying toilets, raining pyramids, and piranha shooting is enough to engage even jaded gamers.
El Airplane supports joystick.
