X-COM: Interceptor is Microprose's fourth entry into the unbelievably popular X-COM series, with a twist: The turn-based tactical combat has been replaced by real-time, fast-paced space simulator action, a la X-Wing.

Welcome to the Frontier! In XCOM Interceptor, you take command of an elite force that has been fielded to meet the aliens on their own turf, the depths of space. This time, you'll be engaging your alien foes from the cockpit of a cutting-edge space fighter, fighting ship-to-ship as you protect Earth's corporations and XCOM installations. But your job doesn't end there. As XCOM's commander of the Frontier, you must maintain your financial standing, manage your bases and increase XCOM's presence in the area. It's also up to you to guide the research of alien weapons and technology in the hopes of improving your own technology. Hopefully you'll discover the reason for the ever-increasing alien activity before it's too late.

X-COM Interceptor combines the action of space flight games with the in-depth strategy of legendary X-COM games to create a truly addicting gameplay experience. In X-COM: Interceptor, the player takes command of a hand-picked, elite force that has been fielded to meet the aliens on their own turf – the depths of space. Players will battle swarms of alien fighters in a dynamic real-time 3D universe full of asteroids, black holes and other deadly space phenomena. The strategy gameplay in X-COM: Interceptor is similar to the previous X-COM games and includes a mix of resource management, scientific research and base construction and maintenance. X-COM: Interceptor is the first X-COM game with a multiplayer game mode that allows up to 16 players to battle in a galactical “deathmatch” with customized space vehicles.

Those of you who are familiar with the X-Com series might be surprised to find out that there are some big changes this time around, the biggest being that X-Com has left earth and taken to the stars to fight the alien threat. You in charge of managing star bases and hopping right into the cockpit of an X-Com fighter craft where you'll go head to head with the alien menace. In the demo, you'll have things relatively easy. You'll be able to have a look at all the strategy screens where you'll manage your bases, perform your research, and so on in the actual game; but then you need full concentration on flying your interceptor in combat.
