The sequel to the popular BLASTER MASTER is here, in the form of BLASTER MASTER 2. Jason has redesigned his mobile assault vehicle, S.O.P.H.I.A., to make it an almost unstoppable machine. Now it's up to you to help Jason recover the weapons that were stolen from his lab by the evil vermin of the underground. You'll have to learn the controls of S.O.P.H.I.A. quickly if you're going to be successful, because these mutants don't take too kindly to humans. The assault vehicle comes fully equipped for any type of situation: an exit pod for hand-to-hand combat, a 360-degree firing field, high clearance to scale piers and platforms, and booster jets that allow you to hover. So head underground, retrieve those stolen weapons, and show those parasites just how displeased you are by their behavior blast them into oblivion!
Some time has passe since the boy Jason and his tank S.O.P.H.I.A. defeated the evil Plutonium Boss and his radioactive underground mutant henchmen. However, not all is well. It appears that one of Plutonium Boss' underlings has survived. He has destroyed S.O.P.H.I.A. and is now using its parts in order to rise to the surface of the Earth and to conquer it. Jason builds a new S.O.P.H.I.A. tank and is prepared to defend his planet!
Following the Beings' footsteps, the group jumped in their new vehicle and headed towards the (presumably) Adirondack Mountains, where their quest began anew. In the end, Jason and company triumphed over the Lightning Beings’ underworld invasion, vanquishing the Lightning being known only as the “Mutant Boss.” S.O.P.H.I.A parts remained missing.
Your mission is to fight your way and destroy the Plutonium Boss before he destroys you. Along the way to your final encounter are many warlords of the underground you must destroy.

This is an action platform game. You control S.O.P.H.I.A. that can roll, jump, and fire two different kinds of attacks at enemies. Being a tank, S.O.P.H.I.A. cannot perform some actions (such as climbing ladders), so often Jason will have to leave the tank and to fight his way through the level alone.
That scenario also serves as an illustration of the dilemma Jason is always faced with. The game constantly reminds you of the importance of never straying too far from S.O.P.H.I.A. You never forget that these are hostile environments Jason is exploring. By putting him in an extremely vulnerable state outside of S.O.P.H.I.A. and allowing him to restore his life energy inside it, the game further enhances the tank's role as a safe haven in a world of unusual and fierce creatures. Without S.O.P.H.I.A. to protect him, all Jason has to defend himself with is a little pea-shooter of a gun, and falls from severe heights can prove fatal for him. But there's no relief quite like jumping inside S.O.P.H.I.A. to turn the tables on some robot who was previously kicking your unprotected back all over the underworld. It's not unlike a beat-up Popeye reaching for that can of spinach. It's great fun.
