The main characters are named Mick and Mack. The story for the game is actually pretty creative, and uses the license well; Mick and Mack hanging out at McDonalds and get zapped into their favorite comic Global Gladiators, they are then transformed into their favorite superheros. You'll travel across four global locales, each with three levels, Slime World, Mystical Forest, Toxi-Town and Arctic World as either Mick or Mack, in an attempt to vanquish the evil in the comic. In order to vanquish this evil, you use a goo-shooter, a weapon resembling a squirt gun.
In order to move onto the next level, Mick or Mack will have to find at least 30 Golden Arches hidden thoughout each stage. If you can collect 75 or more, you'll be taken to a bonus game that will have you sorting falling garbage into recycling bins. Each level will have various creatures that need to be taken care of, such as Slime Pigs, Thrashcans and Squeak Beaks, in order to keep the environment clean.
On top of these unique platforming sections, the game features one of the most unique (and funny) bonus games ever: a recycling level. In order to reach it, you have to collect 75 Golden Arches (out of 100 in a level), or you can choose to play it in the Options menu. In this game, you collect falling cans, bottles, and newspapers and throw them into their respective recycling containers. Bottles go in the left container, cans in the center one, and newspapers belong in the right container. Beware of the falling anvils, if you get hit by one, the bonus game ends. The game also ends if you allow any of the recyclable items to settle on the ground and become litter. The items start falling slowly, then their descent quickens as time goes on, increasing your chances of messing up, and losing the game. This bonus game is extremely addictive and is actually better than some full games. The ability to play this game outside of the regular game really adds to its appeal, you can play this bonus game for hours on end and never get bored.
Mick & Mack as the Global Gladiators graphics are very good. The use of the color pallette is fabulous. The character and enemy designs are done very well, and the backgrounds look outstanding. The first stage seemed like a toxic dump, and had tons of green ooze and other toxic stuff around. The backgrounds in the stage were great as well, especially when you went really high into the sky.
The music and sound effects in Global Gladiators are pretty good as well. The hip tunes and smooth melodies of the game really blend well together and make a great musical experience. Adding to the mystique is the great sound effects. Every sound effect, from the sound that is made when your gun is fired to when you die, is done very well. Overall outstanding music and outstanding sound effects.
