Pocahontas
Best!Freeware game by Funcom, Walt Disney
Take control of the title character or her little raccoon friend, Meeko, in this adventure based on Pocahontas, the Disney animated film from 1995. Pocahontas must learn the nine special animal spirits as she ventures out into the wilderness to prevent a.
Editor-in-chief says: Pocahontas is a nice and enjoyable video game based on the movie with the same name. I played Pocahontas the first time in 1996, when released for the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis, but I've also enjoyed the PlayStation installment next year. Unfortunately I was not able to play it on my SNES, due to the title being canceled, but what can I do about it? Pocahontas and Meeko were the two main playable characters, with the player being able to switch between them. If you watched the movie, then the story of the game will be almost similar and sometimes repetitive. Otherwise this game is very nice!
Pirates! Gold
Best!Freeware game by MicroProse Software, Inc.
A blend of strategy, action and adventure, Pirates! Gold lets you play the role of a beginning buccaneer, in search of fame and fortune.
Editor-in-chief says: You want to be a Pirate? Then Sid Meier's Pirates! Gold is the game for you. Sid Meier was always producing great simulation games and Pirates! Gold didn't disappoint either. The story was set in the Caribbean and though the player can sail free as much as he wants, there are some invisible limits just northeast of Bermuda and southeast of Trinidad. However, the graphics were awful, even for 1987, and it kind of ruined the interesting idea of Meier. The player can choose to be a pirate for France, England, the Dutch Republic or Spain.
Phelios
Freeware game by Namco
You are Apollo who is trying to save Artemis from Typhon by riding Pegasus through seven challenging levels.
Editor-in-chief says: If you like Greek mythology, you have to play this great game. Phelios was released in 1990 for the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis and I remember playing it for hours and hours until I had to go to school the second day. I controlled Apollo, riding on the swing horse Pegasus, who had a sword which fired if the fire button was pressed. If the button was held down, upon its release a bigger fireball was released from the sword of the God of Sun. Although the story was simple and short, I have enjoyed Phelios for few weeks before moving to other games.
Micro Machines 2
Best!Freeware game by Codemasters Software Company Limited
You get to drive around in those little vehicles that Galoob sells by the ton on some very strange tracks — like the bathtub, on the dining table, and so on. You even get to choose your driver from some rather crazy looking characters.
Editor-in-chief says: Micro Machines II was a great released by Codemasters, featuring cars that require different handling techniques for each course or track. The game brought hovercrafts and helicopters as well. The head-to-head playing mode was the most fun, when each player had to earn points by driving a full screen ahead of the other players. I only played the SNES version, but I heard the PC one had a track editor, which would have been a great addition for any platform. The Turkish 90s TV star Violet Berlin was a playable driver in the game.
